Dr Verónica Posada Álvarez is an urban researcher, lecturer, and designer whose work bridges research, creative practice, and public engagement. She examines the intersections of culture, community, and urban transformation, with a focus on activism, social justice, and creative, collaborative and participatory methodologies.  

With a background in design for museums and galleries, Verónica holds a PhD in Cultural Studies from CREAM (Centre for Education in Arts and Media) at the University of Westminster, an MA in Arts and Visual Culture, from the same University.

She works as Associate Researcher in Creative and Cultural Industries Public Engagement/Impact, at the University of Derby and Visiting Research Fellow at UCL’s Urban Lab. Her transdisciplinary projects, often supported by institutions such as the British Academy and the ECR Development Fund, use arts and design to foster inclusive and transformative urban experiences.  

Her research explores Latin American diasporas, migration, urban belonging, representation, and community heritage, with a particular focus on the experiences of Latin American communities in the UK. Working across participatory, creative, and interdisciplinary methodologies, she examines how diasporic communities produce cultural memory, negotiate identity and visibility, and mobilise collective action to defend community spaces and advocate for social and political recognition. Her work sits at the intersection of migration studies, urban studies, cultural heritage, visual culture, and socially engaged research, contributing to debates on community-led knowledge production, cultural citizenship, and social justice.  Dr Posada’s research focuses on visual geography and design practices that address pressing social and political issues, particularly those that enhance the well-being and representation of marginalised urban communities.

Her work demonstrates the potential of research-led practice to influence policy, public discourse, and community-led interventions in cities.
